Thank You Washington Parks & People!

Washington Parks & People hosted its annual Community Harvest celebration on November 15, 2018. As part of this annual celebration, Washington Parks & People honors community partners and leaders that go above and beyond in raising awareness for the importance of parks, sustainability and the overall people/nature-based connection.   I was most honored to have been selected as one of WP&P’s outstanding community members for the work through Plants and Blooms ReImagined – using sustainable practices of post-event floral recovery (several of which from The Josephine Butler Center, out of which Washington Parks and People operates and manages) to cultivate indoor nature-based connections for those who experience significant barriers to outdoor green space.
I would be remiss in accepting this award not to acknowledge the venerable Josephine Butler.  In the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, Ms. Butler was DC’s parks and people leading advocate, championing healthy green space for all!  Past and present and future recipients to come are indebted to her lifelong service and activism and pioneering work.
